What Works Summit

I spent last weekend at the What Works Summit at the Community Rowing boathouse in Boston. I had a terrific time, saw a bunch of old friends and made a bunch of new ones. I know I have already sent out info on this program, but you must forgive me if I do it again. There will be another edition next year, and I strongly recommend that you attend.

Institute of Rowing Leadership

I also wanted to give a shout-out to the fellows studying at the Institute of Rowing Leadership at Community Rowing. They are using my book as a text!

These enthusiastic young coaches are going through an intensive year-long program of strict academics combined with hands-on practical experience. It is so refreshing to be around serious students working so hard to bring professional rigor to the sport we all love.

Bruce Smith, the Executive Director of Community Rowing, and Matt Zatorski, Coordinator of the IRL, say that there are still openings for the 2012-13 academic year. Act now! I couldn't recommend this program more enthusiastically. Check here:

Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club

Among the many new friends I made at the What Works Summit was Jonathan Moss, member of the 1993 World Champion U.S. Lightweight Coxless-Four. Today his passion is the revival of rowing on the Connecticut River near Springfield in Western Massachusetts. Here is the website for Jonathan's Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club.

Jonathan asked me to help spread the word, but surprise, surprise, my good friend Göran Buckhorn's peerless blog, Hear the Boat Sing, is already all over it. So if you haven't already become addicted to HTBS, now is your opportunity:

Hear the Boat Sing

Now take a careful look at all the postings on Hear the Boat Sing! Bookmark this website right now, and return regularly. There is nowhere on the internet anywhere near as fun or informative as this is.

Today pay special attention to Göran's recent posting on the National Rowing Foundation events at Mystic Seaport on March 9 and 10, just three weeks away. I'll be there, and I hope to see many of you there as well. They have a great weekend planned.
